Uttar Pradesh Maadhyamik Shiksha Parishad, Prayaagaraaj (UP Board) is one of that boards in India which had started intermediate examination from the beginning. It is the highest institution in the world in conducting the exams of High School and Intermediate. UP Board, which is also known as Uttar Pradesh Board, is in action from 1921 at Prayagraj. It is an act of United Provinces Legislative Council. It had conducted its first exam in session 1923 successfully. It conducts exams for High School students (after 10 years of education) and Intermediate students (after 10+2 education). Now UP Board Books for Class 9 English, Science, Maths and Social Science are same as NCERT Textbooks. Similarly, UP Board Books for Class 10 Maths, Science and Social Science are also NCERT. For Class 11 and Class 12 UP Board Books for Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, etc., are from NCERT Textbooks.

Main Functions of UP Board
It grants recognition to aspiring schools in India.
The conductions of exams for High school and Intermediate is one of its responsibility.
It also prescribes Syllabus and Books related material for High school and Intermediate standard.

UP Board Regional Offices
UP Board is considered as the biggest examining body in the World as it conducts more than 65 lakhs of student’s board exams in a single session. Due to conduction and coordination of exams along with the other work load, it had established its Regional Offices in Meerut in 1973. Later on, in the same decade (in year 1978) Varanasi became its second Regional Office. Keeping the Head office in Prayagraj, it established two more Regional Centres in Bareilly (in year 1981) and Prayagraj (in 1987) to regulate all the educational processes smoothly.

Most of the schools in Uttar Pradesh are following UP Board Curriculum only. Only few are there based on ICSE or CBSE board. Currently, there are more than 22 thousands of schools which are affiliated to UP Board. A lots of new secondary and senior secondary schools are still getting recognition from UP Board every year. Just to improve the quality of education, it has implemented NCERT Textbooks in most of the subjects for all UP Board Schools. Different committees are being maintained for various facilities under UP Board Education. To maintain all the UP Board educational and related works, there are more than 40 committees being maintained. These committees work for making curriculum (Curriculum Committee), conductions of examination (Examination Committee), result preparation and declaration of exams (Result Committee) and all other works which help to run smoothly the UP Board Organisation.
History of UP Board
With the help of United Provinces Legislative Council, the UP Board was set up in the year 1921 at Allahabad (now it is Prayagraj), Uttar Pradesh, India. After two years of its establishment, it conducted its first examination in 1923. It deals with two public exams. High School Examination after 10 years education and Intermediate Examination after the 10+2 stage.
