World Children Day 2021, UNICEF India Calls for Safe Opening of Schools

With prolonged school closures across India due to the ongoing CORONA pandemic, and children losing time with their teachers and friends, to nutritious school meals and, in some cases, a safe haven that prevents abuse and violence, loses much more. The United Nations Children’s Fund, or UNICEF, has called for a safe reopening of schools and a learning recovery on World Children’s Day 2021.

The theme of this year’s WCD is to help children overcome the disruptions and learning losses experienced through the pandemic over the past two years. The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) India along with its partners have designed a series of programs – both virtual and physical – between November 14 and November 20 to shed light on the issue.

Corporate Engagement of UNICEF Partners

As part of its corporate engagement, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) partners, such as Goggle India, Oracle India, Kimberly-Clark India, Ibis, Housing.com, B-Medical Systems, INIO Media Networks, have launched their programs for children. The platforms will lend and highlight the WCD theme for the year 2021.

World Children’s Day 2021 UNICEF Program:

    • 1) November 14-20: Epidemic Classroom Establishment – An Epidemic Classroom will be set up at the Open Amphitheater, Select City Walk Mall, Saket that will highlight the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the education, learning and well-being of children.
      2) November 18: Launching of the Changing Childhood Project Report – A Historical Survey – The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) will release the findings of The Changing Childhood Project – a landmark survey by UNICEF and Gallup that asked generations of generations their views on the world and what it is like to be a child today.
    • 3) November 19-20: Iconic Buildings & Historic Monuments #GoBlue – Monuments across the country, including Rashtrapati Bhavan, Parliament House and Qutub Minar, will be lit in blue light, reflecting a nationwide celebration of child rights and headlines on Learning Recovery.
    • 4) November 20: Charter of demands submitted to MPs on prioritizing the education and recovery of children – The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) India has also partnered with Parliamentarians’ Children’s Group (PGC) to organize a Parliament with Children on November 20. Children’s Parliament will be held in the presence of Members of Parliament. A UNICEF statement said that the PGC is a forum that convenes, informs and engages Members of Parliament on children’s rights issues. On this occasion, the children will demand the reopening of the school.
