No state university in West Bengal has adopted the Common University Entrance Test (CUET)-UG model for admission to undergraduate courses, said on Sunday. Vice Chancellor of Diamond Harbour Women’s University S. Bandyopadhyay said – Being a state university, we prepare the admission criteria as per the instructions of the higher education department of the state. There is no way we can adopt CUET method or prepare any new merit list.
The private St. Xavier’s University also conducted its own entrance exam offline this year. Father Felix Raj, Vice Chancellor of St Xavier’s University said – We are not going through the CUET route.
Presidency University, Macau, North Bengal University, Vidyasagar University, Bardhhaman University, West Bengal Technological University also said that they have followed their admission process as envisaged by the state higher education department.
Vice Chancellor S Bandyopadhyay said that – We have conducted the entrance examination as per the instructions of the State Higher Education Department. All our subjects – Science, Arts and Engineering – maintain high academic standards due to this admission process by JU. Uniform CUET route is not applicable for JU.
Jadavpur University Teachers Association, P P Roy said that Jadavpur University Teachers Association Spokesperson P. P. Roy said that Jadavpur University has already conducted its entrance exam for UG courses of various departments. By no means can we adopt CUET route for institute like Jadavpur University which follows rigorous high level admission process.
The CUET eligibility criteria will be followed for both Path Bhawan and Shiksha Sesha (higher secondary level educational units run by Visva Bharati) and outside students.
A spokesperson of Visva Bharati University said that the central university has adopted the CUET route with UG courses in various subjects. But for internal students (who have studied up to Class 12th here) the cut-off marks will be slightly lower.
Spokesperson of the Presidency University Students’ Union, – We oppose the attempt to impose uniform entrance examination criteria on all higher educational institutions across the country.
NTA Senior Director (Examination) S. Parashar said that the merit list will be prepared by the participating universities who will decide about their individual counselling based on CUET UG score card.
The CUET UG results were declared by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on 16 September. It does not consider the issue of academic autonomy of institutions like the Presidency.
