Global engineering and product development digital services firm Tata Technologies Ltd on Wednesday said it has collaborated with the Assam government to transform 33 state polytechnics and 42 industrial training institutes (ITIs) into centres of excellence (CoEs) of the future Rs. 2,389 crores.
Post-upgradation, these centres of excellence (CoEs) will not only meet the advanced skilling requirements of students associated with major industries in Assam, but will also act as a technology and industrial hub for MSMEs and support entrepreneurship.
Tata Technologies said in a statement that the company has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoA) with the Assam government for a period of 9-10 years for this purpose.
The advanced CoEs will offer a range of courses to elevate the youth of Assam on various traditional and new age industries empowering the North East region of India, which is a major focus for the Tata Group. The total proposed investment under this project will be around Rs 2,389 crore.
The CoEs will cover various technical courses related to Industry 4.0, such as Additive Manufacturing, EV Product Design and Development, Design for Artisans and Handicrafts. The company said it will also pursue youth in traditional Assamese industries such as tea processing, food processing, handicrafts and textiles to support industries in Assam.
Apart from that – Modern automotive maintenance repair and overhaul, battery electric vehicle training, advanced manufacturing and prototyping, industrial robotics with arc welding, AI-based virtual welding and painting will cover as various technical courses.
Quoting Assam Chief Minister H.B. Sarma said in the statement, – Technology up-gradation of polytechnics and ITIs will create better employment opportunities for local youth and turn the state of Assam into a potential investment destination for all industry players who are looking to embrace Industry 4.0 and smart technologies for manufacturing.
Commenting on the collaboration, Subramaniam Madurai, Chairman, Tata Technologies said that the technology is developing rapidly and there is acute shortage of skilled manpower. To keep pace with these evolving technological trends, and for lateral shift towards Industry 4.0-driven smart business operations, it is imperative to train youth on latest technologies by upgrading State Polytechnics and ITIs in the country.
