The Maharashtra government has decided to reopen schools in areas where no active COVID-19 case has been reported in the last one month. School Education Department Minister Varsha Gaikwad said that schools have been allowed to resume offline classes from July 15 for students of class 8 to Class 12.
“It has become the need of the hour to have a co-educational approach to reach out to the last strata of the state,” he said. Ms. Gaikwad shared the government order on Twitter stating that all teachers and staff members need to be vaccinated before the school reopens.
Ms. Gaikwad said, “Corona vaccination of all teachers and non-teaching staff in the respective schools should be done as a priority before school starts.” She said that it is mandatory for everyone to strictly follow the prevention of corona. The rules set by the state government before starting the school. Any negligence will not be tolerated in view of the possibility of third wave”.
No corona patient has been found in Jaya village for the last one month and in future the Gram Panchayat may unanimously decide to keep the village corona free. Classes 8 to 12 will be approved to start from July 15,” the minister said.
An eight-member committee will be formed to decide on the Covid-free zones. The committee will include the collector, school principal and health officials. In rural areas the committee will be headed by the head of the Gram Panchayat.
“The committee headed by the sarpanch of the gram panchayat will be responsible for strict adherence to the corona prevention rules at the village level,” said Ms Gaikwad.

The Andhra Pradesh government has decided to resume classes in offline mode in schools from August 16 and in online mode from July 12, state education minister Audimulpu Suresh said.
In view of the ongoing COVID crisis, the Andhra Pradesh government has also cancelled the class 10 and class 12 intermediate examinations. Education Minister A. Suresh told reporters that he decided to cancel the exam as it was difficult to comply with the July 31 deadline set by the Supreme Court to complete the process.
The education minister said a “high-powered committee” would be formed to assess the marks and awarded to intermediate students for the cancelled board exams.
Earlier, the state government was keen to conduct the exam despite the prevailing COVID situation and demand from all opposition parties and parents.
The state government had announced summer vacations for students of classes 1 to 9 on April 20. The government has also promised dry rations to such students to meet the nutritional needs of children and safeguard their immunity during the COVID-19 outbreak. All the students were directly promoted to the next class. Along with this, mid-day meal was also announced for the students of class X.
“All students from classes 1 to 9 will be treated as pass and promoted to their next classes duly cancelling the Summative Assessment-II examinations for the academic year 2020-21”, an official statement said earlier.
