The Education Department today said that all private and government schools, colleges and other educational institutions in Delhi remain closed till further notice in view of the pollution level in the national capital. The air quality remained “very poor” on Sunday morning, said.
The Environment Department has directed the closure of all schools in NCR and adjoining areas with immediate effect till further orders of the Air Quality Management Commission. The city recorded its air quality index (AQI) at 382 at 9 am. The 24-hour average AQI on Saturday was 374.
Examinations for Board Classes will be Conducted as per the Guidelines:
The Air Quality Management Commission (CAQM) said earlier on Tuesday, – All private and public schools, colleges, educational institutions in NCR will remain closed till further orders, in which only online education will be allowed.
Therefore, all government and private schools will remain closed till further orders, – (Additional Education Director Rita Sharma) said. However, online teaching learning activities and examinations for board classes will be conducted as per the guidelines issued earlier.
The Chief Minister of Delhi announced on 13 November that schools would remain closed for a week starting Monday. A day later, on November 14, the Haryana government announced the closure of schools in four cities – Faridabad, Sonipat, Gurugram, and Jhijar – from Monday.
Last week, the commission had advised Rajasthan, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh to close schools to check rising air pollution levels, along with other restrictions announced by the Delhi government.
The Delhi government, in an emergency meeting earlier this week on the apex court’s order, suggested a weekend lockdown and work from home for a week.
The Puducherry government has declared Friday a holiday for all government, private and aided schools in view of incessant rains. Joint Director of Education Sivakami said in a press release on Thursday that in view of the rains in Puducherry and Karaikal regions, all schools in both the regions will remain closed on November 19.
A press release by the Revenue Department said that Puducherry recorded 15.1 cm of rain till 7 pm on Thursday. Meanwhile, Regional Home and Education Minister Namasviyama held discussions with the electricity department and asked them to take immediate steps wherever and whenever the power supply is disrupted and the overhead power lines broken due to rain and strong winds should also be repaired.
