In April this year, educational institutions were closed due to the lockdown in view of the second wave of corona virus. As per the guidelines issued by the Home Department, all teaching and non-teaching staff of coaching institutes should be fully vaccinated (completed both doses of COVID-19 vaccine) while drivers and other teaching and non-teaching staff should be provided transportation facilities. Schools or colleges or universities should receive at least the first dose of vaccine.
The state government had constituted a ministerial committee to discuss about the reopening of schools. The committee had recently submitted its report with recommendations to the Chief Minister after which the decision was taken.
The Punjab government decided to increase the number of CORONA-19 tests and conduct more than 10,000 tests daily in schools, days after schools reopened for offline classes after 26 students from the schools tested positive for the virus.
Six Students Found Infected:
On Tuesday, 20 students from two schools in Ludhiana tested positive for Covid-19. On Wednesday, six students of a government school in Hoshiarpur were found infected with the disease, after which the government had to take this step.
The Chief Secretary also asked the Deputy Commissioners to ensure that only fully vaccinated employees are allowed to attend schools. Chief Secretary Mahajan asked the concerned departments to expedite the RT-PCR test and said that the target of taking 40 thousand samples per day should be achieved in the state.
CORONA-19 Cases Increased Due To Reopening Of Schools:
Schools in Punjab were reopened for offline classes for students of classes 9 to 12 from August 2. Nearly a week after schools reopened, students were tested positive for the virus, raising concerns for parents and teachers.
