Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal inaugurated 12,435 smart classrooms in 242 government schools on Saturday, February 19. New smart classrooms were set up in government schools in Rajkaori’s Government Girls School. DCM, who also holds the Education portfolio, Manish Sisodia and Delhi Home Minister S. Jain were also present on the occasion.
With the opening of 12,435 new smart classrooms, the number of new classrooms built by the Kejriwal government reached 20,000, which is synonymous with 535 new school buildings.
Speaking at the event, CM Arvind Kejriwal said, “The Delhi government has constructed a total of more than 7,000 classrooms in the last 7 years. All the state and central governments combined could not set up more than 20,000 classrooms in this period.”

Nursery from class 8 to reopen on February 14:
The new building constructed by the government includes designer desks in classrooms, libraries and multipurpose halls for conducting programs.
Schools reopened for class 9 to Class 12 in the national capital on February 7, while classes from nursery to 8 reopened on February 14.
The Delhi government will soon launch a study to assess the impact on mental health and emotional well-being of students due to the closure of schools, COVID-19 and the shift towards online education, officials said on Saturday. Schools were closed in Delhi in March 2020 following the lockdown and were opened in the same month. The Planning Department of the Delhi government on Friday issued a request for a proposal to appoint a suitable agency to conduct studies involving government school students, parents and teachers.
The study is designed to assess the emotional well-being and mental health of all types of students, boys and girls from different classes, age groups, social and economic backgrounds, which will provide an insight into how students from different backgrounds How has responded, adapted and handled the effects of Corona-19,- the document stated.
Survey for schools across 28 regions in Delhi:
During 2020-21, 44.50 lakh students were enrolled in Delhi schools. It said a total of 8,410 students, 1,682 parents and 1,681 teachers would be surveyed for schools in 28 areas of Delhi. The sample data of parents, students and teachers will be made available by the government.
The study will be conducted for students of classes I to XII as well as parents and teachers from all 28 education zones of Delhi through personal interviews. A separate questionnaire for each group of students has been prepared by the Directorate of Education in consultation with the Planning Department. Questionnaires for teachers and parents have been designed regardless of groups.
The document states that the selected agency will be required to form a survey team of minimum 30 surveyors with completion of 15-17 surveys per day over a period of 30 days, including buffer period, to cover selected students, parents and teachers.
As per the RFQ, an agreement will be signed with the agency selected through bidding by March 21 and the field work of the survey will be completed by April 29.
The digitally collected data will be compiled and analysed and a draft report will be submitted to the government by May 17. According to the document, the final report of the study will be submitted by May 27.
