Around one lakh students from across the country had applied for the residential training program of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), the space agency said on Tuesday, out of which 149-150 were selected. “Yuv-Vigyan-Program” (YUVIKA) is being organized by ISRO from May 16 to May 28. ISRO said that 150 students were selected from all the states and union territories of the country.
According to an ISRO statement, the program will include classroom lectures, practical activities, interactions with eminent scientists, laboratory Or facility visits, sky viewing, robotic assembly and ‘CANSAT’ experiments.
All the students will be taken to India’s space port SHAR-Sriharikota for a visit and face-to-face interaction with ISRO Chairman S. Somnath.
Around one lakh students had applied for the programme. In the end, 150 students were selected on the basis of academic scores and achievements in other co-curricular activities, ISRO said.
The training is conducted at five canters of ISRO – Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, Thiruvananthapuram, U R Rao Satellite Centre, National Remote Sensing Centre, Hyderabad and North Eastern Space Applications Centre, Bengaluru, Space Applications Centre, Ahmedabad, Shillong.
Shri Somnath inaugurated Yuvika-2022 in a virtual program on Monday. Addressing the gathering, Shri Somnath urged the students to make full use of the opportunity to interact with senior scientists and technologists whom he is going to meet in the next two weeks. He also explained to the students the vast opportunities and domains such as engineering, astrophysics, astrobiology, mathematics, materials science, chemistry and computer science that are actually integral to space technology “BUT PEOPLE DON’T KNOW”.
Shri Somnath also appealed to the students to become “Ambassadors” of ISRO and propagate the experience to their classmates, teachers and general public and make them understand how ISRO is touching everyone’s life in a positive way.
