Controller Sangam Bhardwaj said that in the midst of the uproar over the Class 10 English paper of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) without asking the right questions. It was highlighted unnecessarily because the instructions are given at the beginning of the questions, and there is no error in question numbers 13 and 14 in today’s paper. Question numbers 13 and 14 are part of section A, passage number II.
Although question numbers 11 and 12 begin with a direction- Study the following statements, questions number 13 and 14 do not contain any directions. However, the passage begins with the following statement- Read the passage given below and answer the questions or complete the statements that follow by choosing the most appropriate option from the given alternatives.
There is no ambiguity:
CBSE in its statement also mentioned that both the question numbers 13 and 14 are correct and there is no ambiguity in it. Further in question no. 43, options C and D have the same meaning as the given options, however, option B is the correct option. The questions are to be answered as per the instructions given and not individually.
The controller reviews the English paper in a balanced way and follows the pattern of NCERT and sample papers. I saw some reviews that quoted principals and teachers as saying that the options were vague, similar, tricky and confusing. The choices were a bit tricky but not confusing, you can’t link the board exam with the school level exam. Some standards have to be maintained, there has to be some balance in the questions, it cannot be very easy, – said the controller.
Meanwhile, the controller admitted that some papers were a bit difficult, and there were some mistakes. But there was no mistake in both the papers of 10th English and 12th Psychology yesterday.
English paper slightly challenging, with difficulty level:
Although the students and teachers found the English paper review a bit challenging, the difficulty level was high. Madhu Malik, Principal, Modern DPS said, – Section A (Reading) was a bit tricky, with question numbers 13 and 14 incompletes.
Section B (Grammar) was easy and scoring, but question number 22 is framed from conditional, which was out of syllabus, and the question had punctuation errors.
The questions in Section C (Literature) were easy but the choices were difficult. An average score around 30 can be expected, the principal said.
According to Anand Mohan, a student of Kandra Vidyalaya, – Question numbers 13 and 14 were a bit confusing as there are only four statements and no questions have been asked.
We got confused, even in Section-C (Literature), most of the options were found to be same, and candidates have to depend on CBSE for the correct choices in the answer key. Overall, the paper was tough, and section B (Grammar) was confusing except for the parts which were only scoring.
