National Council of Teacher Education (NCTE) has invited online applications for the Four-Year Integrated Teacher Education Program (ITEP) for the academic session 2024-25. ITEP is a dual major undergraduate degree offering BA, B-Ed, BSc, and BCom BEd. A statement said that this is one of the major orders of the National Education Policy 2020 related to teacher education.
The four-year ITEP will be available to all those students who prefer teaching as a profession after secondary. This integrated course will benefit the students as they will save one year by completing it in four years instead of the five years required for the current B-Ed scheme.
The National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) under the Ministry of Education has designed the syllabus for this course as per NEP 2020 in such a way that it enables a student-teacher to have a degree in education as well as in a particular discipline like history. Mathematics, Science, Arts, Economics or Commerce.
The admission will be done through National Common Entrance Test (NCET) by the National Testing Agency (NTA). It will initially be introduced in a pilot mode in multidisciplinary central, state government universities and institutions across the country.
According to the statement, ITEP will not only provide state-of-the-art pedagogy, but will also establish a foundation in early childhood care and education (ECCE), foundational literacy and numeracy (FLN), inclusive education, and an understanding of India and its values. ethos, art, traditions, among others.
The prospective teachers who undergo this course through a multidisciplinary environment based on Indian values and traditions will be aligned with the needs of the 21st century at global standards, and hence will be instrumental in shaping the future of New India to a great extent. The 4-year ITEP is a milestone achievement in fulfilling one of the major mandates of the National Education Policy 2020.
