The department said the move is aimed at creating adequate courses and programs on logistics and supply chain management at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. More than 100 universities have been identified across all states and union territories, where relevant course modules on logistics can be included in the regular curriculum, an authority said.

Simultaneously, there is a need for these universities to provide specialized training and education. Vocational and online courses on logistics are being developed for the department added.
AICTE is also promoting various technical courses like Logistics and Supply Chain Management subjects through its approved institutes.
The logistics sector employs about 22 million people across the country. The department said that with its continued growth it is likely to witness a compound annual growth rate of 10-12 per cent by 2025, adding that the government is prioritizing the need to develop the country’s human resources to achieve the target of USD 5 trillion economy gives.
Online training courses are also being prepared for civil servants in consultation with various Central Ministries and Departments which will help them to sensitize them on key aspects of achieving logistics easing and efficiency.
To address these areas, at the request of the Department of Logistics, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has constituted a task force to develop and implement various technical and skill courses with the help of premiers is focused on institutions across the country.
Currently, there are insufficient courses and programs on logistics and supply chain management at these levels. Furthermore, there is no adequate system for job role identification, qualification mapping and course approval.
A National Logistics Policy is also being formulated by the Ministry. India’s logistics sector is highly defragmented and aims to reduce logistics costs to less than 10 percent of GDP from the current 14 percent of GDP in the coming years.
The government is taking steps to cut logistics costs and boost competitiveness of businesses, manufacturing, exports and job creation.
