NEET 2021 exam date still hangs, with students expecting the date of August 1 to be shifted soon due to the COVID-19 situation in the country. National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is a common entrance test conducted by students across the country, who aspire to pursue MBBS or any other medical course.

The exam, which was earlier scheduled to be conducted on April 18, 2021, was postponed till August 1 by the Government of India in view of the increase in the number of COVID cases across the country. Former Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan announced on Twitter that amid a surge in infection cases, due to the second wave of COVID-19, the government has decided to postpone this year’s NEET exam. The announcement about the delay worried medical aspirants as many see it as a deciding factor for their careers.
NEET scores help students secure admission in any medical college in the country, including the most premium colleges like All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) and Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER). Apart from India, the test scores are also recognized by colleges and universities abroad.

    • 1. A Compulsory Exam
      The National Medical Council Act, 2019 has made this medical evaluation test a mandatory step for medical institutions to admit any candidate.
      The exam is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), an independent body set up by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India (GOI). The basic eligibility criteria for NEET is that candidates must be at least 17 years of age.
      Apart from this, it is also required that the students must have secured minimum 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

      Given the fact that it is the only exam that helps students to take admission in any medical institute or college in India or abroad, it therefore provides a common ground to all the candidates.
      Moreover, it provides equal opportunities to all the students taking NEET to secure seats in medical colleges across the country. It encourages admission on the basis of merit and rank.

      Every year lakhs of students sit for the examination. The competitiveness level of NEET is so high that students prepare for years in advance to clear it. Cracking NEET requires a well-planned strategy and clarity of basic concepts of Physics, Chemistry and Biology. The most uncertain aspect of this exam is the negative marking, as each wrong answer deducts the score.
      Apart from the concept clarity, candidates also need to work at their own pace and focus on answering 180 questions within the time limit of three hours.
      Indirectly, the exam prepares the students in advance for the life ahead, by giving them a glimpse of this demanding field, which requires a lot of patience, patience and perseverance from the students.
    • 5. Transparency and Uniformity
      The exam adds a consistent structure and uniformity to the admission process. Moreover, it keeps the entire process transparent without any hidden rules or involvement of third parties.
      Hence, the process is the same and is known to all regarding admission in any government or private or deemed medical institute/college. Admission cannot be granted on any basis other than NEET rank.
