Addressing the e-seminar on – “Building Innovation Ecosystem in Educational Institutions” organized by the Ministry of Education, Minister of State for Education Rajkumar Ranjan Singh said that our higher educational institutions should serve as enablers in the Indian innovation and start-up ecosystem. Singh further said, – We have one of the largest higher education systems in the country and the third largest start-up ecosystem in the world. We strive to be a knowledge-based economy and this would not have been possible without the innovative enthusiasm and entrepreneurship within our educational institutions.
A new self-reliant India:
Singh said that Modi shared his vision of building a new and self-reliant India. This can be achieved through a supportive ecosystem and the dedication and efforts of our innovators and entrepreneurs. He stressed that the India of tomorrow must combine our best traditions with modern global outlook.
The Minister urged the educational institutions in India to change their mindset and create an environment that supports high quality research, innovation and entrepreneurship, leading to commercialization and technology transfer.
Celebration of “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav”:
Rajkumar Ranjan Singh also congratulated the 75 start-ups that were recognized by the Ministry of Education as part of the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav‘ celebrations. These 75 start-ups of students and faculty have developed innovative technologies and have immense potential. Start-ups received funding support of up to Rs 10.1 lakh each and would also be provided with mentoring and incubation support in collaboration with partnering agencies.
Higher education department said, – We have 2510 innovation cells in India at present and additional 5000 cells will be added in future. He said that 50,000 plus teachers are being trained under the Ambassador program, which will bring a big change in the field of education. He said that it is a culture of innovation and such events inspire the youth to come forward and showcase new ideas and abilities.
Anita Karnaval, (Department of School Education and Literacy) talked about how India’s young minds are focusing more on developing problem-solving skills. He appreciated the massive participation of young girls in such nation and character-building programmes, which reflects the success of the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020’s approach to equal education.
Karnawal also highlighted the value of innovation and risk-taking skills among young children to prepare them for the future. Addressing the importance of such initiatives, he said, “Our focus should be on developing scientific temper and logical and critical thinking to make children responsible citizens.”
