A section of Delhi University students protesting the second, fourth and sixth semesters also demanded a change in the date sheet to ensure adequate gap between the two papers.
The Law Faculty of Delhi University said they have started a hunger strike demanding the postponement of their exams on Saturday, while arguing that their syllabus has not been completed.
We have started hunger strike. All we want is that the exam should be postponed by a week to give enough time to prepare. The date sheet is not prepared properly, there is not enough gap between the two exams, – Mr. Shakti said.
Several students sat on the dharna and held placards that read: ‘Don’t play with our careers’ and ‘We are humans, not machines’. The second semester student of the Faculty of Law, S. Singh said the students have been protesting for the past few days and the department has not done anything even after giving assurances to them.
Another law faculty student Gunjan alleged that the exam date sheet is not balanced. “I have one exam on 10th and another on 13th. So, only two days are given to prepare for the second paper which requires more time as it is a long subject. We are not asking for cancellation, that’s all. Postponing.” he said.
We have started hunger strike till our demands are met. Some students have low blood pressure. But we are not going to end the strike till the administration postpones the examination.”
Students of Campus Law Centre (CLC) and Law Center I and II are protesting. He claimed that his syllabus is not over and online classes are still going on but the exams are scheduled from August 10.
The university provides the academic calendar and the department prepares the date sheet accordingly. The date sheet for PG courses is decided by the department. Meanwhile, Dean of Examination D. Rawat said that the academic calendar was released before the start of the semester and the date of examination was mentioned in it.
The role of the department is to check whether they have followed the academic schedule issued by the registrar, – he said.
