Three students – two from the economics department and the third from the music department – were expelled on 23 August for alleged disorderly conduct during a protest meeting inside the campus on 9 January.
All three expelled postgraduate students of Visba Bharati on Thursday mailed the central university authorities in an interim order to allow them to attend classes at the earliest as directed by the Calcutta High Court.
Two – Somnath So, Falguni Pan and Roopa Chakraborty – mailed different proctors on Wednesday urging them to immediately pave the way for the facility to attend class as directed by the HC.
Students Protesting Against this:
The university has been witnessing protests by students against expulsion since August 27. The agitating students, who had shifted their protest venue more than 62 meters away from the main gate of the Vice Chancellor’s O’residence since September 3, started breaking the stage built for it. protesters on Thursday.
Justice R. Mantha on Wednesday passed an interim order saying the expulsion of the students for three years was harsh and excessive. On Wednesday itself, after the High Court’s order, the agitating students withdrew their relay fast and celebrated each other with gulal.
The court directed that the expulsion order by the university be kept in abeyance and the students be allowed to re-join the classes.
Chakraborty Did Not Want To Meet Him:
However, when they reached the VC’s residence to offer them gulal and flowers, they were told that Chakraborty did not want to meet them, he said.
The High Court, in another interim order on September 3, had said that no demonstration shall be held within 52 meters of any part or part of the institute.
The court had also ordered immediate restoration of normal functioning of the central university. It had directed the police to immediately remove all demonstrations, banners, barricades and blockades outside the official residence of the VC. So said the students would abide by the court’s order regarding the agitation.
Journalists Have Not Yet Received Any Information:
