West Bengal Chief Minister M. Banerjee on Thursday (24.02.2022) urged all state-owned banks to ensure speedy clearance of student credit card applications, while reiterating that her government would be the guarantor.
Ms. Banerjee, presiding over an event on the distribution of student credit cards, said her government has already issued over 5,000 such cards to students, and approved 20,000 more. The chief minister said his government has allocated Rs 5,043 crore for the scheme. Under the state government scheme, students can avail education loan up to Rs 10 lakh (1 million) at simple interest in 15 YEARS.
Ms Banerjee said that the TMC government is committed to ensure better facilities and facilities for the school and college students. She said that 77.2 lakh girl students have come under the purview of Kanya Shree scheme and nine lakh students of class 11th and 12th have got smartphones and tablets. West Bengal now tops the foundation literacy index list, – she said.
She said his government has built 31 new universities, 13 new medical colleges and 3,007 schools, including 364 San-thali.
Co-operative banks are already playing their role. I urge all public sector banks to come forward in this spirit. Please ensure prompt disposal of proposals. The government stands as the guarantor for each credit recipient. Therefore, the sanctioned amount is the guaranteed money. There will be no defaulters, – she said.
The TMC Party had earlier accused Governor J. Dhankar of “INTERFERING IN THE ACADEMIC & ADMINISTRATIVE AFFAIRS OF PRIVATE UNIVERSITIES” when she called officials of 11-12 private universities in the state for a meeting to discuss their financial matters. But the official(s) did not attend the meeting.
Without naming anyone, Banerjee alleged that “SOMEONE” is demanding audit of financial matters of private universities, while only the state government can demand such audit. I have come to know that someone is seeking an audit of your financial affairs. Let me tell you that only the government can ask for such audit. So don’t be afraid and act fearlessly, – she told the officials of private universities.
