Schools were closed in Delhi following the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic and the subsequent lockdown. All primary schools, Pratibha Vidyalayas, aided and recognized schools under East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) will open from Monday. The consent of the parents will be obtained before sending their children to school, East Delhi Mayor Shyam Sundar Agarwal had said in a statement issued by the civic body.
Schools run by the East Delhi Municipal Corporation are expected to reopen with 50 per cent capacity from November 8 after a gap of more than one-and-a-half years, the civic body said on Friday. North Corporation and South Corporation officials had earlier this week issued orders to reopen the schools run by them from November 1, following a gradual decline in the number of corona-19 cases.
Mayor said that as a precautionary arrangement is being made that only 50 per cent of the given number of children will be called to ensure adherence to CORONA-appropriate behaviour. He said that parents are advised not to send the child to school if he is unwell or has cough, cold or fever and the teacher concerned should be informed.
The mayor said that although schools are opening, classes will continue even on online mode so that the studies of children who are not able to come to school are not interrupted due to any reason. East Delhi Municipal Corporation – EDMC’s education committee chairman Rajiv Kumar said that the teachers posted on Kovid duty have been given relief.
He said that the immunization centers operating in EDMC schools have either been curtailed or restricted in confined spaces. Kumar said that since EDMC schools are opening after about one and a half years, special attention is being paid to cleanliness in all schools. Detailed instructions have been given to the school administration.
Hand sanitizers will be kept outside classrooms in school premises and there should be adequate provision of soap in toilets. Kumar said that the cases of vector-borne diseases are also increasing in the city and in such a situation all the schools of East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC) are being fogged and water tanks are being cleaned.
The chairman of the education committee said that the school inspector has been given the responsibility to visit the allotted schools and ensure strict adherence to these guidelines.
