The Delhi University Teachers’ Association (DUTA) will march to Parliament on March 31 to press for its demand for one-time absorption of teachers working on ad-hoc or temporary basis.
She will also hold a protest at the Delhi Secretariat on April 4 against the merger of the Arts College with the Delhi government-run Ambedkar University.
The Executive Council of Delhi University had last month passed the Undergraduate Curriculum Framework (UGCF) prepared in accordance with the National Policy on Education (NEP) for the academic session 2022 to 2023.
The draft offers a total of 177 credits. Students are required to earn a minimum of 50 percent credit in a subject to obtain a four-year bachelor’s degree with a major in that subject. However, the UGC has not approved it. It is likely to be discussed again in the Academic Council meeting to be held on March 22, although the members are yet to receive the agenda of the meeting.
Delhi University was informed that the LG’s office has in-principle approved the merger of the College of Arts (CoA), subject to its affiliation with the University. The university has not approved the affiliation, with its executive council opposing the move.
DUTA also said that it will protest outside the Academic Council meeting on March 22 on the above issues and seek restoration of workload or number of credits in the first three years of the undergraduate course framework for discipline specific honours courses.

DUTA also discussed withdrawal of Delhi government’s proposal on merger of Arts College with Delhi’s Ambedkar University and release of full grant-in-aid from the next quarter to 12 DU colleges fully funded by Delhi government.
The DUTA Executive Committee in its meetings held on March 7 and March 9 discussed several issues and decided to organize these programs to raise voice against the issues.
DUTA said that absorption of teachers working on ad-hoc or temporary basis following all the constitutional provisions of reservation is one of the demands.
In order to address the issues and constraints related to absorption, the University of Delhi, UGC and the Union Ministry of Education should devise modalities for absorption of these teachers by bringing in a one-time extraordinary Ordinance or Bill.
DUTA will organize a dharna during the Delhi University Academic Council meeting on March 22 and then a college-wise dharna in three phases on March 25, 28 and 29. This will be followed by a Parliament march on 31 March and a protest outside Delhi Collectorate April 4.
