The Academic Council (AC) of DU will discuss the implementation of the scheme in its meeting on Wednesday. Delhi University is planning to launch a scheme that will allow students from other universities or institutes to study various courses in the university from next year.
According to the agenda of the meeting, the scheme called Competency Augmentation Scheme will enable people from “different walks of life” to enroll in the university, so that they can increase their knowledge and understanding about any subject taught here.

Must be able to demonstrate genuine interest and enthusiasm for the course

Admission under the scheme will be merit-based and candidates will be allowed to register for a maximum of two courses and eight credit subjects in a semester. A candidate who fulfills the eligibility criteria and pre-requisites can register for the course, which is mentioned in the agenda.

The candidate must have the time and commitment required to study the course with the students studying in regular mode, – mentioned in the agenda. Must be able to demonstrate genuine interest and enthusiasm for the courses offered for study in addition to the minimum eligibility criteria.

People who want to learn about a specific subject or skill

Mr Singh said that this would help those who want to learn about a particular subject or skill but do not want to pursue a full-time degree. In an interview to PTI last month, Delhi University vice-chancellor Y Singh informed about plans to start certificate courses for non-DU students from January next year.
Some students only want to pursue specific subjects, not a degree. We are planning to start course-based registration for citizens and they can come and take classes with university students, – he said.

Number of seats in the courses open for this scheme

The agenda states that the number of seats in a course open to the scheme will be a maximum of 10% of the total class of that course. The credit earned from the courses will be transferred to the student’s account in Academic Bank of Credit. The registration of candidates for a particular course will be valid for one semester only.

The scheme will fulfill the objectives of the new National Education Policy

Academic Bank of Credit is a virtual storehouse that will hold digitally stored records of academic credit secured by a student. The agenda states that the scheme will fulfill the objectives of the new National Education Policy, which provides an opportunity for students to design their own educational path by studying various courses from different educational institutions. At the end of the course students will receive a certificate.

Instructions and Assessment Pattern will be provided

The teaching or instruction will be given through and through the same as regular students and the pattern of evaluation of these candidates will be same as that of regular students, read the agenda. As per the agenda, the student who fails to pass or complete the course can re-register.
