Delhi University on Thursday issued guidelines for the “centenary chance” exam for drop-out students, saying eligible candidates can appear for a maximum of four papers in annual mode and up to eight papers for semester-wise tests. The university said that the portal for registration of interested candidates will open from May 1. This one-time chance has been given to the drop-out students in view of the year-long centenary celebrations of Delhi University starting from May 1.
The guidelines issued by registrar V. Gupta said that undergraduate and postgraduate students and those pursuing professional courses, who have completed their course work and stipulated statutory requirement to complete the course, will be considered for the centenary occasion.
In March, Vice Chancellor Y. Singh had announced that DU students would be given a “chance of the century” to complete their studies and obtain their degrees. A proposal for the same was approved in the special executive council meeting held on January 28 to discuss the centenary celebrations of the university.
University informed that while applying for “centenary chance” students have to provide details and documents as required. Failing to provide the details/documents as required, their candidature in the Centenary Opportunity Examination cannot be considered. Further, the students will have no right to claim any relief in this matter at any forum – stated in the guidelines. The examination fee will be Rs 2,000 per paper.
However, M.Phil. and PhD students, who could not complete their degree, will not be considered for this opportunity, the guidelines stated. Eligible candidates can appear for a maximum of four papers for annual mode of examination and up to eight papers for semester scheme.
The exam will be conducted tentatively during October this year and in March next year through physical mode. The university said it will be conducted for theory and practical exams and not for internal assessment.
Delhi University has sought legal opinion with regard to St. Stephen’s College’s decision to give weightage to interview in admissions for general candidates, according to a senior university official.
St Stephen’s College has insisted that it will give 85:15 weightage to Common University Entrance Test (CUET) scores and interviews for all categories of candidates.
