Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Sunday inaugurated two centres – Centre for Nanotechnology (CNT) and Centre for Indian Knowledge System (CKIS) and two hostels on the campus. Assam Education Minister R. Pegu was also present. IIT Guwahati said that the Centre for Nanotechnology (CNT) aims to meet the challenges of the future and enhance academic partnership with industry in nanotechnology.
Major funding for the Centre, which included Rs 37 crore for the building apart from equipment, was received from the Ministry of Education (MOE) and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEITY).
The institute informed that the centre will host – “25 advanced laboratories that will focus on advances in multidisciplinary, scientific and translational research and are equipped with state-of-the-art fabrication, characterization and integrated Class-100 clean room facilities. Testing Laboratories”.
Key outcomes expected from the Centre for Nanotechnology include nano-enabled healthcare, energy harvesting, and LED prototyping, equipment and technologies, start-up/incubation ecosystem, high-end R&D output, capacity building of highly skilled manpower in the area of nanofabrication Are included. and nanoelectronics, etc.” it added.
IIT Guwahati said that the Centre for Indian Knowledge System (CIKS) will focus on preserving, documenting and maintaining knowledge that is unique to India.
Top priorities include Indian classical music, yoga, Sanskrit, traditional medicines, temple architecture, the ceramic tradition and special agricultural practices of Northeast India, herbal plants from the North-East as health food, and the metal works of Assam.
IIT Guwahati said that Naya Disang adds another 1,000 rooms to the existing hostel capacity and Dik-how Hostel is the first hostel on the campus exclusively for housing project staff.
IIT Guwahati, Oil India Limited Collaborate to Develop Technology on Energy
Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati has signed an agreement with Oil India Limited (OIL) to develop and introduce new technologies on energy and related sectors. IIT Guwahati is now working aggressively with industries to take up challenging research and innovation problems that align with the “Self-reliant India’ Mission”.
