Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Thursday said that Delhi University should prepare future courses and include them in its curriculum. He was addressing the inaugural session of the three-day international symposium on ‘Bringing India’s Ideas from ‘Swaraj’ to ‘New India’.
We were greeted by NCC cadets as we entered. Our Home Minister got emotional seeing him. He recalled his time as an NCC cadet when he welcomed Morarji Desai during his visit to his village. He said that in 30-40 years any one of them can become the Prime Minister of the country.
Delhi University Vice Chancellor Y. Singh said India needs a growth rate of 10 per cent for the next 10 years to become a six trillion-dollar economy. He also emphasized that policies that compromise the development of the country should not be supported and should be postponed.
Delhi University is celebrating its centenary. It has been 100 years of education, the process of becoming the best university. Congratulations to the students, the Ministry of Education and the Centre on this achievement.” It started with three colleges, 750 students, an annual budget of Rs 40,000 and today we have 90 colleges, more than six lakh students and an annual budget of Rs 840 crore. This is such a huge extension.
The education minister also advised the university to include future courses in its curriculum. The times are changing. Inventions of our country are not patented. Delhi University may start short term diploma course on patent process. Students will become employable not only in India but also internationally. DU should include future courses in its curriculum, – he said.
Mr Pradhan also shared that Home Minister A. Shah, who was the chief guest at the event, got emotional seeing the NCC cadets who welcomed him at the event.
I wish I was a student of DU. DU is celebrating its centenary year and we are celebrating the nation’s elixir of independence. It’s a happy coincidence, – he said.
The registration for this started from 1st May and we have received 1,560 registrations. The oldest student is of 1977-80 batch, who was pursuing B. Com at Atman Ram Santana Dharma College, – he said.
We are giving centenary chance to those students who could not complete their degree. He said that the visit of Home Minister Shah is a golden day in the history of Delhi University. The centenary celebrations of the university have started from May 1.
