Gopal Rai who is a Environment Minister of Delhi, has said that all schools in Delhi will remain closed from Today till further notice due to the prevailing air pollution in the city. The apex court today gave a 24-hour ultimatum to the Centre, Delhi and other neigh boring states to take action to control pollution in the National Capital Region. The minister remarkable made the announcement after the SC criticized the Delhi Govt. decision to reopen schools.
On November 13, Chief Minister AK announced the closure of schools for a week to keep students away from breathing polluted air. Delhi’s air quality is deteriorating after DIWALI. The shutdown was extended for a week as the city’s air quality did not improve significantly. We have reopened schools in the hope of IMPROVING AIR QUALITY. The level of air pollution has INCREASED AGAIN and we have decided to close the SCHOOL FROM FRIDAY.
Expressed Displeasure Over the Steps Taken by the Delhi Government:
On 24 November, schools were allowed to reopen for physical classes, despite recording VERY-POOR air quality. On 2 December, the Supreme Court of India expressed dissatisfaction over the measures taken by the DELHI GOVERNMENT TO CONTROL AIR POLLUTION. There has been a mixed reaction among parents regarding this decision of the national capital government. The top court said that despite the demands of the state government, the level of pollution in Delhi has increased.
The Supreme Court criticized the Delhi government’s decision to reopen schools, saying that Children of three years and four years go to school but adults work from home. YOU DO YOUR WORK WELL or else we will have to hand over power to someone else to RUN THE GOVERNMENT. During the hearing, Chief Justice Ramanand said, that we feel that nothing is happening and pollution is increasing because only time is being wasted.
If you don’t take action we will take Strict Action:
There is a lot of controversy over “LOSS OF LEARNING” happening in schools. Reopened of schools with the option of online options is best – said advocate AM Singh, who is representing Delhi Govt.
We have children and grandchildren too. We know the problems they are facing from the pandemic. You say you have left it optional. BUT WHO WANTS TO STAY HOME? If we don’t act tomorrow, we will take strict action. WE ARE GIVING YOU TO 24 HOURS”- said the Justice.
Schools Closed in NCR Districts of Haryana Due to Air Pollution:
In view of the deteriorating air quality in NCT of Delhi and NCR, Haryana Government has ordered closure of schools in four NCR districts of GURUGRAM, FARIDABAD, SONIPAT AND JHAJJARG till further notice.
According to a statement by the Department of Environment and Climate Change, Government of Haryana, all schools in four NCR districts of Haryana, namely Sonepat and Jhajjar, Gurugram and Faridabad, adjoining the DELHI WILL REMAIN CLOSED TILL FURTHER NOTICED.
The Supreme Court on Thursday gave a 24-hour ultimatum to the Centre, Delhi and other neigh-boring states to TAKE ACTION TO CONTROL POLLUTION in the National Capital Region. The decision to close the schools was taken in view of the Supreme Court order to tackle air pollution.
On Thursday, Environment Minister G. Rai said that in view of THE LEVELS OF AIR POLLUTION in the city, all the schools in Delhi have been closed from yesterday i.e., from December 3 till further notice.
