The Delhi High Court will on Thursday hear a plea by several National Eligibility cum Entrance Test-Graduate (NEET-UG) candidates, who are seeking postponement of the competitive examination for the year 2022, which is scheduled to be held on July 17 (Sunday). The candidates of undergraduate medical and dental courses belonging to different states, filed by petition fifteen, have been listed for hearing before Justice Sanjeev Narula.
The respondents have scheduled the national level examinations of CUET, NEET-UG and JEE in the month of July 2022, with a time interval of 1 or 2 days, in which the syllabus of all the three examinations is completely different, – the petition said.
The petition, filed through advocate M. Sharma, said that the board exams ended in mid-June 2022 and students were forced to prepare for three national level exams without getting enough time to prepare.
The petitioners seek to set aside the scheduled date for the entrance test and reschedule it after four to six weeks on several grounds, including the schedule of national level examinations i.e. NEET, JEE and Central University Entrance Examination (CUET). is included. “Disorganized” and the same has caused – extreme mental trauma and harassment resulting in 16 young students reporting suicide leaving their families in a state of despair.
The petition also states that this year, the notification for NEET (UG) was issued almost 100 days before the examination and the examination schedule is unfair and arbitrary.
The petition states that NEET-UG is one of the most challenging examinations and if it is conducted as per the present schedule, it will cause irreparable loss of one year’s education and will cause great injustice to lakhs of students.
Despite being aware of the genuine and valid grievances of the petitioners, the Respondents have failed to take timely decision regarding rescheduling of NEET-UG 2022 and are creating confusion among the students by not issuing the admit cards of the students till 11th has given of July 2022,- the petition said.
Petitioners are requesting this Hon’ble Court to postpone NEET UG 2022 by 4-6 weeks to compensate for the unfortunate mismanagement during the times of COVID and to allot proper time to the students in view of the peculiar circumstances. As if the exam was conducted on time in 2021. The petition also states that there is a flood situation across the country and many officials have already postponed their respective examinations, so in the present situation the authorities must prepare NEET-UG 2022 to save a precious year of education. You may be instructed to reschedule the exam for candidates.
