The Delhi government on Friday felicitated 17 lecturers for their outstanding work in the colleges and state universities funded by them. Appreciating their efforts, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said that teachers and lecturers have the biggest contribution in nation building.
Our teachers impact the lives of millions with their work. Our teachers prepare the foundation of the country, our children, for the future. The faculty members of our colleges have played a vital role in building a knowledge-based society in Delhi, so it is our duty to respect them. Our vision is to transform the country through education and our teachers are contributing in this direction by leading the movement – he said.
The ‘Reward for College Lecturers’ scheme was launched by the AAP government in 2019 to acknowledge the contribution of lecturers. They are selected on the basis of student feedback, improvement in results, research work, extra-curricular activities and other areas of education. An evaluation committee is constituted at the college and university level to assess these aspects.

As per the guidelines for the award, there is a provision to award one lecturer each from the 28 colleges of the government-funded university and two lecturers each from three state universities. The award consists of Rs 1 lakh and a citation.

A teacher touches on all 360-degree aspects of our life:
Sisodia, who is also the Education Minister of Delhi, further said, – A teacher touches all 360 degree aspects of our life. So, it was easy to set up IITs, IIMs, AIIMS but we have not been able to establish top class teacher university till date.
The Delhi Assembly had in January passed a bill to set up a world-class teacher training university. To create a new generation of teachers, the university will offer teacher education programs like BA-BEd and BSc-BEd. University students will collaborate with Delhi Government Schools for the duration of their courses and gain experience with a focus on research.
He said, – The university will offer a new age, integrated teacher education program after class 12th. It will also lay emphasis on fundamental and applied research in education by collaborating with national and international organisations.
Four-storey main university structure:
A new “TEACHERS UNIVERSITY” is being established in Bakarawala of West Delhi. The four-storey main university block is divided into two parts – the administrative floor and the education floor. There will be an administrative office on the ground floor, while classes will be on the first, second and third floors.
