The education ministry had earlier announced that the validity of the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) certificate of eligibility would be extended from seven years to a lifetime, which also applies to the CTET conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). However, the board has decided not to re-issue certificates with changed validity.
In an official statement, CBSE said that the National Council of Teacher Education (NCTE) has given life-long validity to TET certificates. And the candidates holding CTET certificate will be given “validity period of CTET certificate for appointment to all categories”. Seven years from the date of issue of the mark statement or the validity period of the CTET eligibility certificate for all categories shall be seven years from the date of issue. “The Validity Period of TET qualifying certificate for appointment, unless otherwise notified by the appropriate Government, would remain valid for life,” notified in the letter of Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).
CTET is conducted for the candidates aspiring to teach in primary schools, i.e., from class 1 to 8 at the central level. The exam is conducted annually but this year the exam has been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The CTET exam for 2020 was conducted in January 2021 and the results were declared in February 2021. It was earlier scheduled to be held in July 2020. More than 6 lakh candidates qualified the examination.
While various states accept CET marks for their teacher recruitment drive, many of them also conduct their own TET at the state level. The pattern of every TET is same. Each exam is divided into two papers, one for teachers wishing to teach classes 1 to 6 and the other for classes 7 and 8.
The Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) exam is conducted twice in a year. The first exam is held in July-August. Whereas the second exam is held in December-January. The candidates who pass the CTET exam are eligible for recruitment in Kendriya Vidyalaya.
