The Central Board of Secondary Examination (CBSE) has launched a student handbook for the skill module on “Handicrafts” for class VI to Class VIII. The handbook will consist of two modules – Paper Mache and Fashion Jewellery and will focus on practical activities and provide a learning experience to the students. CBSE offers ‘Handicrafts’ in the form of skill modules of 12 hours duration in classes VI to VIII.
Arts and crafts as a subject in the school curriculum are generally considered compulsory for toddlers and young children in the formal education system. But, over the years, unfortunately many schools have reduced the arts to their school curriculum. Music, painting, theatre – they are fast disappearing. It helps in developing a problem-solving approach, which, in turn, will help them in the future.
These help in the form of improving hand-eye coordination, enhancing dexterity, improving hand-eye coordination, learning to appreciate art and culture, enhancing self-expression, enhancing creativity, Enhances memory and visual learning and much more.

HCSSC CEO Krishna Kumar said that the tools and equipment required for handicrafts are completely safe and use only recycled materials. He said that this would help in developing good environmental habits among the students. “All the equipment and equipment required to teach this skill module can be easily procured by the school and are completely safe for the students”, Kumar said in an official notification.
The board will organize training programs for teachers teaching this skill module to students, Dr Biswajit Saha, Director (Skill Education and Training) said, adding that more than 700 schools have already opted to introduce this module. The student’s handbook/workbook on ‘Handicrafts’ will be available on the official website of CBSE.
HCSSC Chairman OP Prahladka said the module will help in building “aesthetic sensitivity, creativity, planning skills, problem solving skills and innovation among students”.
The launch was done in association with Handicrafts and Carpet Sector Skill Council (HCSSC). Manoj Ahuja, IAS, Chairman, CBSE said that the handbook will help in creating awareness about the cultural heritage of India among the students. “I appreciate the efforts of the academic wing of HCSSC to develop this handbook for the students and hope that this module will help in creating awareness about the rich cultural heritage and traditions of India as per NEP-2020, I have also imagined. I also hope that such courses will help in inculcating entrepreneurial mindset among the students at an early age”. he said during the launch.
