The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) released on September 29, 2021 to host webinars for Science, Mathematics, Social Science and English explaining aptitude-based questions in detail. Never before was such clarity given through video webinars to all in board exams. The webinars proved to be engaging and extremely informative for students and teachers as CBSE experts discussed what to expect in the upcoming TERM-1 exam.
Where many educational advisors, teachers attended these webinars and some really useful insights will be given below as to what type of MCQs will be asked and how to answer in term 1 board. So, please read till the end to not miss such an important update.
Each webinar’s panellists covered how questions are formed around the competency-based education system. CBSE made it very clear that to move away from cramming and confusing concepts, Term 1 MCQs board exam will be heavily merit-driven in nature.
Recently, CBSE provided Science Sample Question Paper (SQP) in the website. This Style of Questions (MCQs) is scattered in the provided TERM-1 CBSE Sample Papers. The sample paper contains a mix of simple (but process driven), image, table or situation-based higher order skill-based MCQs and the board paper will be heavily based on MCQs testing these competencies.
Myth Among Students and Teachers:
There is a myth among students and teachers that aptitude question involves some kind of paragraph or case-study followed by MCQs, which is not true. In Class 10 Science (or Class 12 Science stream subject), an MCQ was taken as an example to explain how a stand-alone technical process or diagram to test the analytical and critical thinking skills of students will be given. This is known as the test of aptitude.
The distinction of asking maths questions in MCQ style may be considered basic but many teachers are taking the wrong approach in their pre-boards and unit tests. It is noted that most of the books in the market have not closely studied the document provided by the British Council (BC) and the aptitude-based MCQ guidelines for Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) sample papers.
In the Maths webinar, the panellists’ discussed a lot about the parameters used to prepare different types of MCQs (Diagram and Case-Based) for TERM-1 Board Exams. Like in the example below, students should be able to remember, think, analyse and apply their knowledge, therefore, applying competencies.
Finally, he quickly reviewed the English webinars, just to give a taste of the type of MCQs asked. We chose the discussion about MCQ writing skills to suggest MCQs based on the specific format, such as complimentary closing, the topic of the letter, how the letter should begin, etc. will not be asked.
Instead, creative thinking will test the process of arriving at answers and linking arguments. The same logic applies to Class 12 English Core MCQs for all sections of Reading and Literature.
It is suggested that only NCERT books (Line by Line Learning) and Sample Paper Books for Class 10 and Class 12 are the major factors of success on TERM-1.
