In a big relief to over 33 lakh students who have registered for the Class 10th and 12th board exams of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), the board has decided not to fail any student so far. This is good news especially for those who found the board exams difficult for the first time.
As of now the board has decided not to pass or fail any student. As per the board, Term 1 board exam result will have marks only. The board had earlier said that the students will be assessed only for the exam and no student will receive pass, fail, repeat or compartment grades. The pass or fail merit list will also be provided after the conclusion of the second session examination. Term 1, Term 2, and internal assessment scores will form the final result.
Term 1 Exam Held in MCQ-Type Format:
The introduction of two board examination system was new for the students. There was no place for step-marking in the Term 1 examination conducted in MCQ-type format. Many students had raised concerns that the board exams conducted this year were more difficult than usual.
According to CBSE Controller of Examinations S. Bhardwaj, the number of students who fail in the board examination will also be less, because after the first term students will be able to assess themselves better and know how much they need to prepare for the second term.
The failure rate will be lower, and the youth will have more opportunities to develop themselves. They will be able to concentrate more on their school work, – he had told the news agency.
Teachers also expressed concern:
This has accelerated the result and evaluation process, however, there were many discrepancies in the boards. Even CBSE had agreed and said that errors can happen but the board has a mechanism to study the errors and make corrections if any. Teachers also expressed concern over the offline evaluation of OMR sheets.
CBSE 10th, 12th Term 1 board exam results are likely to be declared by January. The board this year had asked schools to evaluate the answer keys on the same day. While for most of the exams the teachers had checked and uploaded the answer keys, the board in the mid-exam asked the schools to stop checking the answer sheets on the same day and upload them and send them to the board.
Internal assessment guidelines were also provided by CBSE. The practical part for class 10 students will consist of grades from three periodic assessments, a student enrichment portfolio, practical assignments and speaking and listening activities. For class 12, internal assessment will consist of unit tests, exploratory activities, practical and projects.
The second session exam may be held in March-April 2022 at the centres, it will have more importance in the final result. If the test for the second session cannot be conducted due to CORONA-19 situation or any other reason, the weightage of the marks of the first-term examination will be increased to give the year-end result.
