In September 2020, the board guided the schools through Central Board of Secondary Education circular number ACAD-65/2020 dated 02 September 2020 on the conduct of practical work during the lockdown. With the school locked down during the CORONA-19 pandemic, the time available for face-to-face instruction for teachers has reduced in the current academic session.
In addition, opportunities for practical teacher-guided practical work for science have also been limited. Where schools were advised to use the “Platform of OLABsto” for a virtual experience of activities or experiments aligned to Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) curriculum for Class 9 to Class 12 Standard.
CBSE has Prepared a Set of Optional Experiments:
Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has designed practical activities for classes 9 and 10 to be carried out in 21-22 for equitable learning outcomes for all laboratory experiments. Where, CBSE has designed a set of alternative experiments using simple, easily available household. Materials that learners can use to do these activities in their homes.

These practical activities are accompanied by step-by-step guides, videos, and worksheets for recording students’ observations. For the convenience of the learners, a list of the materials required for each experiment along with the options has been included in the material package. The material is provided by “ThinkTac” and is also available on “Diksha Portal”.
Links to access the list of laboratory experiments of class 9 and Class 10 standard and practical activities that can be used as an alternative are detailed as an attachment to this circular. Apart from this, list of extracurricular activities for 9 (20 activities) and 10 (22 activities) is provided from National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) Lab manual. Learners can use these to explore science concepts and gain better understanding
While activities and materials have been chosen to be safe for learners, teachers need to review them before handing them out and advise parents whether a specific activity requires supervision. Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will provide an online training on the use of these activities, details of which will be communicated separately.
