The pandemic (CORONA-19) has been going on for more than a year now and our education system is under tremendous stress. Most of the schools have been in lockdown for a long time and are struggling to keep up with the teaching-learning transaction. The board said it aims to educate schools on how to manage these uncertain times.

CBSE Partnership with Microsoft

CBSE said that state governments have decided to reopen schools for physical classes and schools are ready to welcome students back to classes, but many parents are reluctant to send their children to schools and prefer online education till the CORONA-19 situation improves.
Hence, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on October 26 said that it has partnered with Microsoft and Tech Avant-Garde to train teachers in hybrid learning.

Main Points of Lession

Points of this Lesson:

    1. Two teachers from each affiliated school can attend the training programme, which will be conducted for five days.
    2. There is no registration fee and teachers of any subject can participate in the school affiliated to CBSE.
    3. The teachers participating in this program should have basic knowledge of technology.
    4. Once teachers successfully complete this training program, they will be certified.
    5. Experts on “HYBRID LEARNING” will be available to be consulted in future, a statement said.
    6. The program will start from November 15. “The event will be conducted online, over a period of five days, with the duration of the webinar being one hour and thirty minutes each day” the board said.

Teachers Unhappy with way of Teaching Online

43% Teachers Unhappy with way of Teaching Online iIn Pandemic:
A total of 221 school teachers took part, while 20 people, including eight teachers, were interviewed for an online survey published in Children First: Journal on Children’s Lives, the first journal of the Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights.

Around 43 per cent of teachers said they were not satisfied with online teaching during the pandemic, while nine per cent of them expressed complete dissatisfaction with the way of teaching, according to a survey.

Online Problems Due in Pandemic

The major issues teachers identified as teaching due to the pandemic were absenteeism (14.5 percent), children with special needs not considered (22 percent), short attention span of students (27 percent), emotional issues. expressed by students (18 percent), and no assessment or assignment completed by students (10.5 percent).

The survey said that a majority of teachers (43 per cent) said they were not satisfied with online learning and nine per cent of the participants were not happy with it at all.

    • A) Participating teachers and students also said that online emotional support and group engagement by counsellors and social workers helped children become more expressive and participatory in online learning.
    • B) Students participating in the study expressed that they missed many school activities, including meeting friends, interacting with people, celebrations, and friendships.
    • C) Teachers stressed that parental involvement in school education has become essential as only they have regular access to children and can directly engage with them during this period.
    • D) According to the survey, some participants also expressed that they are overloaded with academic exercise.
    • E) The survey concluded that for a successful transition to online mode, certain things are necessary – accessibility and affordability of digital platforms, need-based curriculum and pedagogy, and adequate capacity building of the learning community.
    • F) The teachers also shared their challenges in maintaining the online learning schedule and fulfilling their responsibilities at home.
    • G) The pandemic transfer of those requirements is still a major challenge for online learning.
