The top priority of the education system will be to achieve universal basic literacy and numeracy in primary school by 2025-2026 as announced in the National Policy on Education 2020.
The ability to read and write, and to perform basic operations with numbers, is an essential foundation and an essential condition for all future schooling and lifelong learning.
The Ministry of Education has launched the National Initiative for Proficiency in Reading Comprehension and Numeracy, NIPUN to ensure that every child in the country attains compulsory basic literacy and numeracy by the end of 2027.
Course Design:
The curriculum is designed with the aim of bridging the learning gap in the elementary grades, developing teachers’ ability to understand concepts in the FLN domain, and equipping them with the tools and resources to help them in the classroom. The rest of this policy will be relevant to our students only if this most basic learning need is achieved first.
In order to implement NIPUN Bharat in its schools, CBSE in association with Central Square Foundation has started Professional Development Course on FLN for capacity building of teachers.
Updation and Learning:
Schools can access various useful resource material from FLN Corner which will be updated from time to time with suitable and latest material from CSF, Pratham Foundation & NCERT etc.
Massive Open Online Course, FLN Toolkit and Assessment Bank have been provided for teachers and various e-learning have been integrated for convenient and easy learning among students.
Teachers/ School Leaders will be eligible for Course Completion Certificate only after completing all 3 sub courses.
This course is divided into 3 sub-courses. Teachers/School Leaders will have to enroll for the course only once and revisit their syllabus on a weekly basis to access the latest sub-curriculum.
Main purpose of FLN:
The curriculum is designed to help teachers better understand children leading to effective learning that demands commitment from all school leaders, teachers, parents and administrators alike.
