CBSE in technical collaboration with Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. Recently CBSE also implemented Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning for its fully digitized affiliation system called School Affiliation Re-Engineered Automation System. In an effort to achieve digital excellence, CBSE implements another “emerging technology” i.e., “Blockchain” for its results and academic documents.
Government of India the Government of India has developed a system called “Academic {Blockchain} Documents (ABCD)” which ensures that academic documents are recorded in a secure and tamper-proof manner and can be accessed online through reliable and verifiable means. Huh. It is set up using block chain technology to record certificates in a linked chain structure.
Challenge to Verify the Authenticity of the Certificates:
Earlier, verification of authenticity of certificates submitted by candidates for admission, job, loan etc was a challenge. The genuineness of the certificate had to be thoroughly checked with the respective universities or boards, and hence the verification process required considerable effort and processing time.
The data is entered on-chain based on consensus among stakeholders as well as replicated across all locations in the distributed network of block chain nodes. Academic blockchain documents address these challenges by recording data in a distributed ledger that is owned by all participating stakeholders.
Blockchain Eliminates Dependency on 3rd Parties:
This eliminates the dependency on any third party for verification. Data is linked and stored with cryptographic security so that it is immutable and traceable. Adding blocks to the block chain ensures that they cannot be tampered with, and the data is trustworthy as it can be verified among the participating stakeholders.
CBSE has already made available the digitally signed certificates of class X and XII for the year 2019-2021. Upon issuance of fresh certificates by CBSE, the digitally signed certificates will be sent to the blockchain based system to create an additional secure link. Presently, the certificate chain is managed by NIC at its data centres.
At present, the result data of Class X and XII Standard examinees of 18 years i.e., from 2004 to 2021 is made available online for students to download, and for verification by employers or higher education institutions. CBSE had earlier developed its own digital academic repository named “Parinama Manajusha” in 2016.
This repository has been integrated with the National e-Governance Division, Digital Locker Platform. QR (Quick Response) coded academic documents like mark sheets, migration certificates and pass certificates are also available in this repository.
