Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Yuvah, Generation Unlimited in India and UNICEF organized a special online session for Principals and teachers of affiliated schools and universities to create more awareness on the nationwide youth warrior movement.
The webinar highlighted the role of teachers and principals in fighting the pandemic and the ways in which students can be empowered and engaged to become “YOUNG WARRIORS” in the midst of the pandemic.
The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Biswajit Saha, Director, CBSE along with Dhuvarkha Sriram, Chief of Generation Unlimited (UWAH), Youth Development Partnership, UNICEF India. The webinar was attended by approximately 71,000 teachers and principals who came out in support of the nationwide youth movement.
Along with the Young Warrior Movement, CBSE, Yuvah and UNICEF aim to simultaneously address the micro and macro issues being faced by young people in the country.
These include mental health challenges, mis-information being spread through social media, and negative effects on young people’s minds.
Challenges related to COVID-19 such as the hesitation of vaccines and how schools and teachers are the main focus for young people to create a massive impact.
The Youth Warriors movement became active in mid-May 2021 and is led by young people of India between the ages of 10-30 to take action against the COVID-19 pandemic.
These young warriors will carry out a series of easy and real-life tasks hosted on online and offline platforms in 13 regional languages, and earn a certificate of participation by CBSE, UNICEF and Yuvah for their actions.
Some of these tasks are -“Fake News Police”: training in myth dispelling tools to detect myths or lies or misinformation. To encourage registration for vaccination and “Tension Buster”. To enable peer-to-peer mental health support by young people.
The movement has reached over 200+ million through its mass and social media outreach so far with 800,000+ young warriors through its Report, IVR platform, community radio and capacity building.
CBSE joins other partners like NSS and NYKS, University Grants Commission, All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Bharat Scouts and Guides, Department of Youth Affairs and Sports. Civil society, United Nations agencies and 1360+ partners in government, private sector will engage millions of youths to lead the action against COVID-19 and impact 51 million people.
In his keynote address, Dr. Biswajit Saha, Director, CBSE said, – School principals and teachers have the power to influence children and empower them to become leaders and changemakers. He would like to urge you to use your skills and strength in causes that affect the lives of millions of children, their families and the nation.
Together with Yuvah, UNICEF, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, we aim to come up with a comprehensive plan towards a sensitization program for teachers, and in turn, teachers, who will execute it. Will give to the students, Dr. Vishwajit Saha, – added.
Dhuvarkha Sriram, Chief of Generation Unlimited, Youth Development and Partnerships said, – Principals and teachers lay the foundation for the society and are building the blocks, and hence, we seek them to guide and encourage the students. Request you to broaden your horizons. Encourage them to think critically about issues related to KOVID-19 and lead social change among themselves, their families, their communities and as a nation.
The class sessions from 22nd July will be conducted as per the schedule given below. Teachers can either conduct this live in their online classes or allot suitable time with their students to conduct it.
The resources of all 5 sessions can be accessed by the CBSE, You-Tube platform. (From – 22nd July, 29th July, 5th August, 12th August and 19th August and each session will start at 12 noon).
The sessions are expected to sensitize the students about the right protocols, information to ensure proper handling of COVID, avoid vaccine hesitation, mental health etc. Through expressive activities of poetry, theatre and other art forms, students will inspire positive change and action in their communities.
