The Class 10 Maths MCQ paper was held on Saturday (December 4), and according to the students who appeared for the standard paper the analysis of the paper was lengthy, with a lot of calculative questions, confusing choices in some questions and more.
Students and teachers described the Central Board of Secondary Education Class 10 Mathematics paper (Standard and Basic) as lengthy, time-consuming and difficult. The case-study parts were the hardest. Teachers and experts also analysed the 10th Maths standard paper as lengthy and difficult, and the excerpts from the case study bear no resemblance to the sample papers.
In the sample papers, the case studies were from the Polynomial, Linear Equations chapters, however in the paper, one of the case studies was from the Triangle chapter, so it is a bit confusing for the students as they have not practiced well. Section-wise, there are standard questions in every section, but the case study portions in the paper were lengthy, and bear no resemblance to the sample paper. Also, the instructions for the case study were different, whereas in the sample paper, candidates were asked to attempt 8 out of 10, whereas in the paper it was 4 out of 5.
Case Study Questions that were Lengthy:
Analysing the basic paper, a teacher of CBSE school, said that the paper was lengthy but the level of difficulty was average. Apart from the case study which was lengthy and had some calculation-based questions, the difficulty level of the paper can be termed as moderate.
The paper had a lot of calculation-based questions, and the options of some questions were a bit similar and confusing. It was tough to complete the paper within time, good student can expect a score around 35. Arjun Singh (Teacher-Mount Abu School, in Rohini) described the Class 10 Maths paper as lengthy and complicated.
Many Students found it Difficult to Complete the Paper on Time:
“Section-B” was comparatively more difficult as compared to rest of the paper. Students found the paper lengthy and the paper had 30 % questions is considered difficult, 20 % easy and 50 % average. Students found the paper lengthy and hence struggled to complete the paper on time. Brain International School said that – Mathematics paper for standard level was balanced with moderate difficulty level.
Students have to attempt 40 questions. Two case studies were also included. In a Trigonometry part of questions were a bit tricky. Similar triangle questions with real concepts. The students were happy with the paper. M. Kapoor (Principal, S. Prestige School) said that – the paper consists of 50 MCQs. Overall, it was a balanced paper.
Basic Maths Paper was Comparatively Easy:
The instructions for “Section-C” are different from the instructions given in the sample papers of both the papers in terms of internal choices. In the sample papers, candidates have to attempt 8 out of 10 questions, whereas in today’s paper the choices were reduced to 4 out of 5 in each case study – the principal said. The Basic Math paper was comparatively easy and was designed to test the conceptual ability of the child but the first case study was very difficult and hence took a lot of time.
A student of Kendriya Vidyalaya told that the paper of Basic was long and difficult. The case study portions were the most difficult, and the options were also reduced. The sample paper had 8 out of 10 questions, while in today’s paper it was 4 out of 5. Moreover, the paper was difficult and time-consuming, and it was difficult to complete the paper within time.
CBSE will release the Class 10 Maths 1st 2021 answer key after the OMR sheet is uploaded by the teachers on the CBSE portal.
