Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank on Friday 25th June, announced that class 10 and 12 students who are not satisfied with their marks given under the Central Board of Education formula, will be given a chance to write their board exams in August.

Mr. Nishank, however, called off his planned interaction with private CBSE candidates, failing to answer their queries on entrance examinations and the current Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) syllabus. The minister’s office said that since he is still in the hospital due to COVID-19 complications, he was unable to interact directly with the students as planned.

Class 10 and 12 Result till July 31

The minister posted a short audio message on Twitter detailing the Centre’s decision to cancel class 10 and 12 board exams due to the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as to calculate the results the tabulation policy, to be used on the basis of CBSE internal marks and marks of previous exams. The board will declare the result by July 31.

Students Can Choose To Write The Examination

“Those who are not happy with the evaluation formula, there is no need to worry. Exams will be conducted for you in August,” Mr. Nishank said, adding that the health of the students was the top priority of the government. CBSE has already said that those who choose to write the exam will have to adhere to the marks obtained by them, and cannot go back to the marks prescribed under its tabulation policy.

Questioned Can Be Asked On Twitter

Mr Nishank had earlier said that he would interact with the students, and invited them to send questions, concerns, doubts and suggestions via Twitter or Facebook. Many such questions were asked by students, especially private candidates registered with CBSE, seeking clarity on their examinations.

JEE, NEET & Otyher Exams Yet To Be Conducted

Aspirants of professional entrance exams like JEE and NEET also wanted to know when and where their exams would be held. The engineering entrance exam JEE-Main is conducted four times a year, but the two sessions scheduled for April and May were suspended due to the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. Undergraduate Medical Entrance Test NEET is yet to be conducted on August 1.

There is also uncertainty about the Central Universities Common Entrance Test, with questions being raised whether it will be applicable this year to all central institutions, including Delhi University and Jawaharlal Nehru University, which have previously used Class 12 marks or their own entrance tests for admissions.

Current students of classes 10 and 12 have raised questions about the 2024-25 syllabus, demanding clarity on whether the 30% cut announced last year will continue, given that school closures due to the pandemic Teaching and learning are still being disrupted.
