The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) students across the country are waiting for the declaration of CBSE Class 10, 12 Board Exam Result 2021. CBSE class 10, 12 results will be declared by July 31, 2021. Result will be released on the official website of CBSE, cbse.nic.in.
This year, as CBSE Class 10 and Class 12 board exams were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, students will be assessed on the basis of alternative assessment methods.
CBSE has asked schools to constitute a five-member results committee under the chairmanship of the school principal. The committee will prepare the results of CBSE Class 12 Board Exam 2021 based on the marking scheme decided by CBSE and with the help of IT teams will upload the result on the official website of CBSE. A portal for uploading marks was activated on Monday and the result will be released by July 31.
In order to evaluate the results of CBSE Class 12 Board Exam 2021, CBSE has decided to give maximum weightage to 12th examinations consisting of Pre-Board, Unit Test or Mid-Term. It will have 80 marks. CBSE has allotted 20 marks for the practical exam. The practical marks will be changed accordingly in the subjects in which 70 marks have been given for theory. CBSE will not release any merit list this year.
CBSE Class 10 marks are calculated for a total of 100 marks, out of which 20 marks will be based on internal assessment and 80 marks will be based on their performance in various examinations conducted by the school throughout the year. 80 marks will be further divided into three sections which include 10 marks for periodic or unit test, 30 marks for half-yearly or mid-term exam and 40 marks for pre-board exam.
The candidates who are not satisfied with the marks will be allowed to appear in the written test once the pandemic situation normalises.
Experts are still debating whether the determination of marks of students on the basis of previous years’ marks is a sign of good evaluation? Are internals and practical enough to make a report card? In an education system that relies heavily on a final exam to judge students, the new evaluation process has exposed flaws in the marking scheme in general.
Dr Sunita Singh, Associate Professor, Ambedkar University Delhi says that the education system is designed in such a way that it gives full attention to the final exam but it reduces the focus on the learning process. “We have not prepared students to mark them in this mode of evaluation. They weren’t ready for it. The process used by CBSE is a better strategy, but only if it is done on a regular basis”.
Dr. Kumi Veveena Singh, founder-director of the Centre for Connection Education and Management and former professor at the University of Mumbai, agrees. She says that the major problem with the new assessment lies in summative evaluation rather than formative. “If we had a regular assessment process that judged students’ piece by piece, that would be better”.
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has recently announced a special evaluation scheme for class 10, 12 board exams for the 2024-25 session. As per the new norms, the syllabus for the academic session 2024-25 will be divided into two terms. 50% syllabus will be covered in each term.
CBSE’s first term examination will be held in November-December, while the second term examination is to be held in March-April. So, keep updated yourself regularly.
