CBSE, CISCE Board Exam 2022 SC Hearing, Supreme Court (SC) disposes of a petition filed by a group of six students, seeking directions to both CBSE and CISCE boards to conduct Standard 10 and 12 exams in hybrid mode was demanded to be given. At present, both the exams are being conducted in offline mode only. Students want the flexibility to take the exam in online mode as well.
After hearing both the sides, the bench said, 11 hours of practice is not right. Noting that the notification for the offline examination was issued in October and the hearing is being held in November, the bench said – that at this delayed stage, the writ petition cannot be entertained. We hope that all precautions will be taken. This writ petition is disposed of.
The Pandemic is not over yet:
During the hearing, the counsel representing the boards said that now it is too late to conduct the examination. While the counsel for the petitioner argued, “It is not counterproductive. It is neutral. 14 lakh students will take the exam. These are mid-term exams. Last time the option for hybrid was available. It should be available this year also”.
According to Live Law, he said, “The pandemic is not over yet. It is too early to say that we can have a physical exam. Wherever there is a large crowd of people, the virus can be transmitted. These children live among people with comorbidities”.
This year both CBSE and CISCE will conduct the board exams twice. The annual board examinations are divided into two terms and presently the Term-1 examinations are being conducted. While CBSE examinations for minor subjects have started, CISCE examinations will also be conducted soon. While Term-1 exams are MCQ-only exams, Term-2 will be subjective paper, however, if Term-2 will be conducted and the format will be finalized later depending on the CORONA-19 situation in the country.
Students claim that lakhs of students give board exams. Conducting such high-stakes exams amid the pandemic can act as a super spreader event, however, CBSE and CISCE claim that they have all the safeguards in place.
The matter will be heard by a bench of Justice Khanwilkar and Justice CT Ravi Kumar. The petition has been filed by advocate S. Nukala who will represent the students in the court today.
