The University Grants Commission has said that applied mathematics offered by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in class 11 and class 12 is a regular subject and can be used to calculate the total marks for undergraduate admissions other than “PURE SCIENCE” can be done.
The subject may be considered at the same level or standard as Mathematics. It said, – Applied Mathematics may be treated at par with Mathematics while computing the aggregate marks for admission to courses in Humanities and Commerce other than Pure Science.

CBSE Board Requested Universities

The board requested those universities to consider a new applied mathematics course at par with the existing mathematics curriculum for admission to courses other than engineering, mathematics and physics.

CBSE had said in February this year that it has observed that some universities require mathematics as a compulsory subject at senior secondary level for students for admission to undergraduate courses in economics, commerce and social sciences etc.

Commission Asked The Universities To Take Appropriate Action

The Commission has asked the universities to take appropriate action for recognition of CBSE Applied Mathematics subject for admission of students in degree programmes.
CBSE had said in February this year that it has observed that some universities require mathematics as a compulsory subject at senior secondary level for students for admission to undergraduate courses in economics, commerce and social sciences etc.

CBSE Marks Distribution:
CBSE Applied Mathematics paper has theory component of 80 percent and practical of 20 percent marks. The subject is offered under academic stream and has curriculum specifications which are compatible with other major subjects.

CBSE Partners Pratham Books, CSF Reading Mission

The Central Board of Secondary Education on Thursday (16.09.2021) said it is launching a reading mission in partnership with Pratham Books and Central Square Foundation to promote reading literacy among primary school learners.

CBSE Reading Mission 2021-23, a two-year initiative to encourage students to read and engage actively with books. This project will help the students to acquire critical reading comprehension skills as envisaged in the National Policy on Education.

Indian Students In Primary School Are Not Able To Learn

According to Annual State of Education Report -ASER’s January 2019 report, Indian students, especially in primary school (classes I-VIII), are not learning adequately. Citing one metric, only half (50%) of all Class V students can read texts intended for Class II students.

The CBSE Board is partnering with Pratham Books Story Weaver and Central Square Foundation to launch this two-year mission on Monday and under this mission, schools and teachers will have access to quality English and Hindi children’s story books and supplements. Will have access to the resource repository from Class I to Class VIII standard.

Reading Mission Will Help In Building A Culture Of Reading:
The board will offer a number of student enrichment activities focused on language formation during this mission to enhance the reading skills of the students.

The Reading Mission will help in the overall development of the reading culture and students by increasing the vocabulary of the students, making connections between stories and their own lives and exposing them to new ideas.
