Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Friday said that every higher education institution will be part of the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), while institutional accreditation will be integrated by next year. He said that soon there would be a system under which every school in the country would also be recognized.
From next year, innovation and entrepreneurship will also be included in the NIRF ranking categories. The number of NIRF ranking categories can be increased as per the need. Work on ranking of ITIs and Polytechnics is already underway, – he said.
Stating that accreditation and assessment would be mandatory, Mr Pradhan said that every higher education institution needs to be accredited and self-declaration and transparency will be the basis of assessment and accreditation.
The education minister pointed out that only those universities and colleges which have NAAC grading or NIRF ranking are eligible to be included in the list maintained by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under Section 12B of the UGC Act, 1956 for receiving financial aid. will be eligible.
Shri Pradhan was addressing the gathering at the launch of NIRF for 2022. Soon, there will be a system under which every school will also be recognized. We will take the state governments along. The parents will get to know what is the status of the schools education where their children are being admitted, – he said.
The ranking on innovation, done earlier by the All-India Council for Technical Education, will be integrated with NIRF from now on. All institutions will be part of a combined system of assessment, accreditation, and ranking. Such a system will be transparent and objective,” the minister said.
By the next year, we will integrate institutional accreditation, which is currently performed by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council, and program accreditation, currently performed by the National Accreditation Board.
IIT-Madras, IIT-Bombay, IIT-Delhi, IIT-Kharagpur, IIT-Roorkee, IIT-Kanpur, and IIT-Guwahati – feature in the top 10 in the overall ranking.
IITs ranked among the top 10 in the management category show that the market also aspire to have multidisciplinary education and institutions, – said Mr. Pradhan.
Many private higher education institutions implement some affirmative action or reservation policy. All private HEIs will move in that direction to ensure inclusive education and follow the principles of National Policy on Education (NEP) 2020. Institutions will become multi-disciplinary.
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras retained the top spot among all educational institutions in the country for the fourth consecutive year, while the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru was adjudged the best university and research institute. The seventh edition of NIRF was launched on Friday.
