Exceptional Contribution to Social Psychology and Management by R. Singh, currently a Distinguished University Professor at Amrit Modi School of Management, Ahmedabad University has been marked on the Heritage Wall of Fame of the Society for Personality and Social Psychology (SPSP) United States.
Professor Singh is the only social psychologist in India to be honored as such. This recognition comes close on the heels of the College of Health and Human Sciences, Purdue University, awarding them the Distinguished Alumnus Award in Psychological Science (March 25, 2022).
In India, Professor Singh contributed to two new institutions trying to improve the delivery of quality education across the country. He regularly mentors scholars, inspires them to conduct high-quality research and publish in important international journals, and nominate deserving individuals for suitable appointments in Indian education.
In addition to his research contributions, Professor Singh is passionate about making formal education accessible. He helped expand the existing primary school in his native village in Nepal to a secondary school in B. Sarlahi, for affordable elementary education.
Accepting the honour, Professor Singh said, – I am completely satisfied with the international recognition I have received this year for my lifelong efforts towards excellence over five decades as an experimental social psychologist. Although, undoubtedly, my greatest Glad that my mentor Don Byrne was simultaneously honored in the ‘Heritage Wall of Fame’ and that his name comes before mine. As his 21st doctoral student, I am on my research and life path Grateful to Don Byrne for guiding me.
Professor Singh has been a successful researcher in the field of psychology and management. During the 1980s, the dominant American view was that humans were cognitively clingy, that is, people resort to shortcuts in thoughts and behaviors. However, through his research, Professor Singh showed how cognitively rich and dynamic humans were.
The site states – People go far beyond the information given to them in social decisions. They actively process multiple pieces of information and the active processes interact with each other (often sequentially) in an apparent response. Theoretically, therefore, these are the main cognitive complexities. Affect and behavior are inherent in many settings, and a cross-cultural view of the human experience helps to identify and unpack those complexities.
