Solving Equations having the Variable on both Sides
An equation is the equality of values of two expressions. If we consider the equation 2x – 3 = 7, there are two expressions are 2x – 3 and 7. In most examples that we have come across so far, RHS is just a number. But it does not always happen this way; Both sides can have expressions with variables. For example, the equation 2x – 3 = x + 2 has expressions with a variable on both sides; The expression on the left is (2x – 3) and the expression on the right is (x + 2). Now we discuss how to solve equations, with expressions with variables on both sides.
More about class 8 Maths Exercise 2.4
There are total of 10 questions based on application of linear equations in one variables. We will do similar questions in next classes also using linear equations in two variables. Question 1 and 2 are simple questions based on simple addition and subtraction. Question 3 and 4 contains the concepts of two digit numbers. Two-digit number concept will also be asked next classes. That is why, these two questions are important. Question number 5 explores the calculation of ages under some conditions. In question 6, ration of length and breadth of rectangular plot is given. So, first we find assume the length and breadth by multiplying a variable in the given ratios. Now find the perimeter in terms of variable and multiply the result by 100. Now by equation the result obtained to 75000, we can get the answer.
Most tricky Question from Exercise 2.4 of Class 8 Maths
The trickiest question of exercise 2.4 of CBSE Class 8 Maths is question number 8. Here, we have to assume the total number of deer are x. So, x/2 will the count of deer who are grazing in the field. Now the remaining deer are x/2. As per the questions 3/4 of x are playing nearby. So, the total number of deer x will be equal to x/2 + 3/4 of (x/2). Solving this, we can get the answer.
