The name of the young woodcutter was Taro.

He lived with his mother and father on a lonely hillside.

All day long he chopped wood in the forest and sell them to earn his livelihood.

Though he worked very hard, he earned very little money. This made him sad.

Taro was a thoughtful son and wanted to give his old parents everything they needed.

When Taro was sitting with his parents in a corner of their hut, a strong wind began to blow.

When Taro was chopping the wood, he heard the sound of rushing water, then he stopped and ran in the direction of the sound.

Taro saw a beautiful little waterfall hidden behind a rock, which he never heard or saw in that part of the forest.

Yes, Taro was really happy now because he could fulfil his father’s wish now. He decided to fill the pitcher with this delicious sake for his father and hurried home.

His old father was delighted with the sake and he stopped shivering and did a little dance in the middle of the floor.

When Taro’s father offered neighbor a cup of sake, after drinking it Taro told her the story of the magic waterfall. By nightfall she had spread the story throughout the whole village.

After the new spread out, there was a long procession of visitors to the wood cutters house. Each man heard the story of the waterfall and took the sip of the sake.

Next morning, Taro started for work even earlier than the morning before. He carried with him the largest pitcher he owned, for he intended first of all to go to the waterfall.

When he reached, he surprised because all his neighbors were there and carrying pitchers, jars, buckets anything they could find to hold the magic sake.

They all were thinking that Taro has fooled them and they were searching to drown him in this waterfall.

No, Taro had been wise enough to slip behind a rock when he saw villagers in anger. He came out when they all left the place.

Taro was thinking, was it true or it was a dream which he had of a sake waterfall.

Taro came out from the hiding place, once more he caught a little liquid in his hand and drank it. He wondered, because it was the same fine sake.

It is because to the thoughtful son, the magic waterfall gave the delicious sake and to everyone else it gave only cold water.

The emperor rewarded him with 20 pieces of gold for having been so good and kind and named the most beautiful fountain in the city after Taro.

The quarrel started on a pretty thing.

The quarrel ended in a friendly way.

They differed as each one said to be right.

Some petty issue made fall out.

The result of the quarrel was that they both became tense.
