Useful Animals

We see different kinds of animals around us. We keep some of these animals in or near our houses.
Examples:
Cats, dogs, cows, goats are some of the domestic animals. Cows, buffaloes, hens, ducks and sheep are farm animals. Dogs and cats are kept at home. They are pet animals.
Animals that we keep in farms or in our houses are called domestic animals.

Animals give us Milk, Egg and Flesh

Animals such as cows, buffaloes and goats give us milk. Animals that give us milk are called milch animals. We make curd, butter and cheese from milk.
Hens, ducks and geese give us eggs. Eggs are very rich in proteins. Protein helps our body to grow.
Goat, sheep and chickens give us meat. Many people eat fish also. Meat and fish are very rich in proteins.

Animals give us other things too

We get wool from the sheep. Wool is the fur on the body of the sheep. Wool is used to make woolen clothes. We wear woolen clothes in winter. We get silk from silkworms. We use silk to make shirts, sarees and scarves. We get honey and wax from beehives. Honey is a healthy food. Wax is used to make candles. We get leather from the skin of dead animals like buffaloes, camels, snakes and crocodiles. Leather is used to make shoes, belts, bags and purses.

Animals make our work easy

Some animals carry us or carry things for us. These animals make our work easy. for example horse, bull, buffalo, elephant, camel etc.

Animals help us in other ways

The dung of cows, buffaloes and camels is used as manure. Manure is added to the soil to make it fertile. Dried dung of animals is used as a fuel.
We keep dogs and cats as pets in our homes. Dogs guard our homes. Cats scare away mice from our homes. We should always be kind and gentle to animals.
