Parabola in Class 11 Maths Exercise 10.2
The first and pivotal part of the NCERT exercise is 10.2. In the first paragraph, you will study the term Parabola. In simpler terms, if you throw any ball in the air aiming for the longest throw. The ball will travel in the air making a curved shape, and that is a parabola.
Imagine the flat ground as the plane and the curved shape is a parabola. Then the plane will be named Directrix. The point of the curved shape on the other side of the parabola will be the focus point. That will be denoted with F.
Parabola and its features in 11th Maths Exercise 10.2
The topics parabola and related terms along with the equations is a detailed topic that required you to visualize the figures same time you are reading or preparing it. In the section, you will be able to read 3 equations. Though, there are four standard equations of parabolas.
One fact that you have to remember here about the standard equation of parabolas is that it has focus on one of the coordinate axes; Vertex at the origin and thereby the directrix is parallel to the other coordinate axis. However, the study of the equations of parabolas with focus at any point and any line as directrix is beyond the scope.
Latus rectum and its use in Exercise 10.2 of 11th Maths
Three important observations have been noticed for the standard equations. These observations are absolutely pivotal for you to know. As the symmetry is along the x-axis the parabola opens to the right if the coefficient of x is positive. You might not understand the statement by just reading it but once you make the geometrical figure of the parabola you will find it a much easier explanation of the observation. The next topic is the Latus Rectum which is another important part of the parabola figure.
Importance of examples during the Exams
In simple language, Latus Rectum is the name of the line segment that is perpendicular to the x-axis and parallel to y – the axis. In the book NCERT for Mathematics class 11, you will find much detailed information on its importance.
To know how it works you can consider working with example 5 which clearly represents the parabola and its features also show you the formation of the solutions. For knowing how to make the figure of parabola, if coordinates are given you can solve all the 12 questions.
