Class 11 English Chapter 1 The Summer of the Beautiful White Horse Question Answers
You will probably agree that this story does not have breathless adventure and exciting action. Then what in your opinion makes it interesting?
In this story we come to know about such a unique tribe which is famous for its honesty for centuries. We come to know about two children who belong to a poor family who have high dreams like horse riding. They also see the courage to steal the horse and when the reader expects that this will happen in the story, then something different happens and it binds the readers to the story. The courage and liveliness of the main character Mourad also makes the story interesting.
Did the boys return the horse because they were conscience-stricken or because they were afraid?
Somewhere we can say that both boys were conscience-stricken and that’s why they decided to return the horse. Nowhere in the whole story do two small children seem to be afraid of evil or of crime. They took a horse ride for several days for their fun and even after knowing this that the horse owner knows their parents, they didn’t return horse timely. Children were told at home that stealing is a sin and no one in their religion and community has ever done this. Keeping all these things in mind and considering the reputation of the family, they decided to return the horse in the right way.
One day back there in the good old days when I was nine and the world was full of every imaginable kind of magnificence, and life was still a delightful and mysterious dream…” The story begins in a mood of nostalgia. Can you narrate some incident from your childhood that might make an interesting story?
I was almost as old as Aram when I got on the train for the first time and went to Veraval, a city in the southernmost tip of Gujarat with my family. The 3-day journey in which the train passed through the rugged desert may have been tough for some but was full of great excitement for me. And then when I saw the sea (Arabian Sea) for the first time, it was an unforgettable day of my life. Followed by the beautiful Gir Forest, Birla Mandir, Daman and Diu, Junagadh etc. This is one of those memories of my life which will never be forgotten.
The story revolves around characters who belong to a tribe in Armenia. Mourad and Aram are members of the Garoghlanian family. Now locate Armenia and Assyria on the atlas and prepare a write-up on the Garoghlanian tribes. You may write about people, their names, traits, geographical and economic features as suggested in the story.
The Garoghlanian family was an Armenian tribe. Eleven centuries ago it was the wealthiest tribe in that part of the world. The members of the tribe were famous for their honesty. The Garoghlanians were men of simple faith. They were contended with their guests with coffee and tobacco. They knew the art of living, which is the celebration of being alive. They were proud of their honesty.
They believed in right and wrong. None of them could think of deceiving anybody in the world. They ended up settling in areas such as Fresno and California. The language of Garoghlanians is Armenian. They originally lived in the region known as Armenia, which comprised what are now northeastern Turkey and the Republic of Armenia.
