Some plants are big. Some plants are small. Tall and big plants are called trees. Trees have a strong stem called trunk. Some trees have branches. Some trees have no branches. A plant has many parts. They do different jobs. The main parts of a plant are roots, stem, leaves, flowers, branches and fruits. Coconut and pineapple have no branches while mango and banyan have many branches. Bushy plants are called shrubs. They are not as big as trees. Shrubs have many hard branches. For example– rose, cotton, bougainvillea etc.

Small and weak plants are called herbs. Herbs have soft green stems. Plants that give us food, grains and vegetables are mostly herbs. For example– wheat, rice, mustard, grass etc. Some plants are very weak. They cannot grow upward on their own. They need support to grow upward. They are called climbers. For example– money plant, pea, grapevine etc. Some plants grow along the ground. They are called creepers. For example– watermelon, pumpkin etc. Some plants have thorns. These are called thorny plants. We should not touch such plants. For example– rose, cactus, babool etc. Some plants grow in water. These are called water plants. They cannot grow on land. For example– lotus, waterlily, water hyacinth etc.
