NCERT Solutions for Class 1 Computer Chapter 6 Using a Keyboard

The buttons on the keyboard are known as keys. There are about 104 keys on a keyboard.
Let us know about these keys one by one. Alphabet keys (A to Z). Alphabet keys are used to type letters and words on the computer. The standard keyboard is called Qwerty Keyboard because the first six keys on the top row of letters spell QWERTY.

Here we can see alphabet keys.
Numeric Keys (0 to 9)
Numeric keys (0 to 9) are used to type numbers on the computer. You can also use the Numeric Keypad which is on the right side of the keyboard.
Enter Key (Return Key)
When you finish typing an instruction, you press the enter key. Enter Key moves the cursor to the next line. You can use Enter key to enter the command into the computer.

Spacebar Key
This key is the longest key on the Keyboard. It is used to give space in between words.
Delete Key
The Delete key is used to delete anything from the computer.
Arrow Keys
The Arrow keys are used to move the cursor in up, down, right or left direction.

Rearrange the following jumbled words to make meaningful words.

1. RUMNECIYEKS
2. HISFTYEK
3. LEDETEYEK
4. PSACLKOC
5. NUFCITONYEKS

Tab Key
To move the cursor to a preset location on the monitor.
Caps Lock Key
It is used to type any alphabet in capital letters on the computer.
Function Keys (F1 to F12)
Look at the top of the keyboard. You see keys marked with F1 to F12. These keys are called Function Keys. These are used for performing special functions.

Shift Key
It is used to give capital letters. For this you have to press the Shift key along with the desired letter.
Backspace Key
It is used to erase anything typed on the left side of the cursor.

Write the keys to the following.

1. To write words.
2. To write numbers.
3. To delete words.
4. To execute the command.
5. To move cursor to preset location.
6. To write capital letters.
