What do you understand by Evolution?
Evolution: It is the branch of biology which involves the study of various sequential and developmental changes in structure and life style of the organism from the time of its origin. However, it occurs because of continuous genetic adaptations in plants and animal populations.
What is meant by Environmental Biology?
Environmental Biology: The abiotic components like sunlight, moisture, temperature directly or indirectly control the life processes of an organism. Exactly in the some way every organism affects another organism.
All biotic and abiotic components of surroundings form the environment of a particular organism. This branch of biology dealing with the relationship between organisms and their environment is called Environmental Biology. It is also known as Ecology. Advances in the field of science and rapid growth of technology has adverse effect on life.
The rapid increase in industries, deformation and use of chemicals have endangered human health. However, this branch of biology helps us to recognise problems related with pollution and take steps against them.
BASIC BRANCHES OF BIOLOGY – Embryology
Generally all multi cellular organism start their life as single cell called zygote which is developed by the fusion of two reproductive cells, one each from male and female individuals. By a number of sequential changes, the zygote takes the shape of an embryo.
The transformation of embryo into its adult occurs through a series of fascinating and organised events of growth and differentiation. The study of events starting from fertilization of the reproductive units to the development of the embryo is called Embryology. Since this branch deals with the development of an organism it is also called Developmental Biology.
BASIC BRANCHES OF BIOLOGY – Genetics
Every organism is identified by genes, present on chromosomes. Peculiarity of the organism belonging to a species also depends on genes. Genes are chemically composed of De-oxyribose Nucleic Acid and control the inheritance of characters from one generation to another. What organisms are and how do they interact with the environment depend on genes.
These structures are also responsible for the stability of a species. Thus, the study of inheritance of characters and related phenomenon is known as Genetics. Today, this branch of biology is being applied from human welfare. It is utilised to produce better crops, animals and to utilize microbes for the use of mankind.
Using the principles of Genetics, it is practically possible that man can introduce desirable characters and remove undesirable characters in an organism. This special branch of genetics is called as Genetic Engineering.
